The recommended method for caring for Alpaca garments is
hand washing. That is the gentlest method and will add years to the life
of the Alpaca apparel. All the socks that we sell are machine washable
in cold water.
Hand Washing:
- Gently hand wash in cool to warm water with mild soap (we recommend
Knits and Leather Fiber Shampoo). Rinse the Alpaca garment in cool to
warm water (we recommend Knits and Leather Fiber Rinse). Never use bleach
on your Alpaca garment.
- Special care must be taken with wet Alpaca fabric. Never wring or
twist the garment, as that will cause the garment to be distorted, wrinkled
and can weaken and stretch the garment out of shape. Gently press the
excess water from the garment using a dry towel. Lay the garment on
the towel and gently roll up the towel to remove the excess water. You
may need to repeat this step with a second dry towel.
- Dry the garment on a flat surface. Block the garment by reshaping
it back to its original dimensions.
- You can gently smooth the garment by hand while it is still damp
to help remove any wrinkles. Never use a brush on an Alpaca garment.
- Once your Alpaca garment has completely dried, you will want to fold
it so as to avoid a center crease. Do not hang the garment on a hanger
to dry, as that will cause the garment to stretch out of shape. Store
the sweater flat in a drawer or on a shelf.
Tough Stains:
- In the event your Alpaca garment has a stubborn stain, you may need
to have the garment dry-cleaned in order to remove the stain.
Dry Cleaning:
- When dry cleaning your Alpaca garments, it is best to use a dry cleaner
that is familiar with Alpaca fabrics and who has experience in dry cleaning
them.
- Make sure the dry cleaner uses a fresh solvent in low heat. Also
make sure that the process they use doesn't involve the garment being
tumbled.
- Once a year dry cleaning should be sufficient for most Alpaca garments.
